The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
