The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
