The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
