The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In gardens of delight; 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and serried acacias, 29 and continuous shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
