The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
