In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
