The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
