The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
