The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
