When you murdered someone, each one of you tried to accuse others of being guilty. However, God made public what you were hiding. 72 So We said: "Strike him (the dead man) with a piece of it (the cow)." Thus Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) so that you may understand. 73 Then after it, your hearts hardened – so they are like rocks, or even harder; for there are some rocks that rivers gush forth from them; and some that water flows from them when they split asunder; and there are rocks that fall down for the fear of Allah; and Allah is not unaware of your deeds. 74 ۞ How do you expect them to put their faith in you, when you know that some among them heard the word of God and, having understood, perverted it knowingly? 75 And when they fall in with those who believe, they say: We believe. But when they go apart one with another they say: Prate ye to them of that which Allah hath disclosed to you that they may contend with you before your Lord concerning it? Have ye then no sense? 76 But do they not know that Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare? 77 And there are among them illiterates who know not the Book but only lies, and they do but conjecture. 78 Woe, then, to those who write the book with their hands and then say: This is from Allah, so that they may take for it a small price; therefore woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn. 79 They say: 'The Fire will never touch us except for a number of days' Say: 'Did Allah make you such a promise for Allah never breaks His promise or do you say about Allah what you do not know' 80 Indeed, he who earns evil and becomes engrossed in his sin, they are the people of the Fire; in it they shall remain for ever. 81 And those who believe and do good deeds – they are the People of Paradise; they will abide in it forever. 82
