The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and shade extended, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
