The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the magicians came unto Fir'awn. They said: surely there is for us a reward if we are the overcomers. 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 And you do not take revenge on us except because we have believed in the communications of our Lord when they came to us! Our Lord: Pour out upon us patience and cause us to die in submission. 126
