Said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 That they may bring to thee every magician knowing. 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 They said, “We have accepted faith in the Lord Of The Creation.” 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
