۞ He it is Who did create you from a single soul, and therefrom did make his mate that he might take rest in her. And when he covered her she bore a light burden, and she passed (unnoticed) with it, but when it became heavy they cried unto Allah, their Lord, saying: If thou givest unto us aright we shall be of the thankful. 189 But when He giveth them a goodly child, they ascribe to others a share in the gift they have received: but Allah is exalted high above the partners they ascribe to Him. 190 Do they attribute as partners to Allah those who created nothing but they themselves are created? 191 and neither are able to give them succour nor can succour themselves, 192 And if you call them to guidance, they follow you not. It is the same for you whether you call them or you keep silent. 193 Verily, all those whom you invoke beside God are but created beings like yourselves: invoke them, then, and let them answer your prayer - if what you claim is true! 194 Do they have feet to walk with? Or have they hands to hold with? Or have they eyes to see with? Or have they ears to hear with? Say, “Call upon your ascribed partners and conspire against me, and do not give me respite.” 195 “Indeed my Protector is Allah Who has sent down the Book; and He befriends the righteous.” 196 While those you beseech apart from Him cannot help you or even help themselves. 197 If you call them to guidance, they will not hear you. You see them looking towards you, but they cannot see. 198 Take to forgiveness and enjoin good and turn aside from the ignorant. 199 If you are instigated by the Devil to evil seek refuge in God, for God hears all and knows everything. 200 Verily, they who are conscious of God bethink themselves [of Him] whenever any dark suggestion from Satan touches them - whereupon, lo! they begin to see [things] clearly, 201 And their brothers, they prolong them in error, and they will never stop. 202 And yet, when thou [O Prophet] dost not produce any miracle for them, some [people] say: "Why dost thou not seek to obtain it [from God]? Say: "I only follow whatever is being revealed to me by my Sustainer: this [revelation] is a means of insight from your Sustainer, and a guidance and grace unto people who will believe. 203 And when the Koran is recited, give you ear to it and be silent; haply so you will find mercy. 204 And remember your Lord within yourself humbly and fearing and in a voice not loud in the morning and the evening and be not of the heedless ones. 205 [The angels] who are near to Your Lord, never turn away from His service out of arrogance; they rather glorify Him and prostrate themselves before Him. ۩ 206
