۞ IT IS HE who has created you [all] out of one living entity, and out of it brought into being its mate, so that man might incline [with love] towards woman. And so, when he has embraced her, she conceives [what at first is] a light burden, and continues to bear it. Then, when she grows heavy [with child,] they both call unto God, their Sustainer, "If Thou indeed grant us a sound [child,] we shall most certainly be among the grateful!" 189 But when He vouchsafeth the twain a goodly child they set up unto Him associates in respect of that which He hath vouchsafed to them. Exalted be Allah far from that which they associate! 190 Do they associate with Him those who create nothing and they are [themselves] created? 191 The idols are things that are not able to help others or even themselves. 192 If you call them to guidance they will not follow you. It is all the same if you call them or hold your tongue. 193 Lo! those on whom ye call beside Allah are slaves like unto you. Call on them now, and let them answer you, if ye are truthful! 194 Have they feet to walk with? Or hands to lay hold with? Or eyes to see with? Or ears to hear with? Say: "Call your 'god-partners', scheme (your worst) against me, and give me no respite! 195 "For my Protector is Allah, Who revealed the Book (from time to time), and He will choose and befriend the righteous. 196 They on whom ye call beside Him have no power to help you, nor can they help you, nor can they help themselves. 197 And if you were to call them to true guidance, they will not hear; and you observe them looking at you whereas they have no power to see.' 198 Take what is given freely, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant. 199 And if an evil whisper comes to you from Shaitan (Satan) then seek refuge with Allah. Verily, He is All-Hearer, All-Knower. 200 When any evil suggestion from Satan touches those who fear God, they are instantly alerted and become watchful; 201 while their brethren ceaselessly try to drag them into error. 202 And if you do not bring them a miracle [according to their (i.e. Quraish-pagans') proposal], they say: "Why have you not brought it?" Say: "I but follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This (the Quran) is nothing but evidences from your Lord, and a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe." 203 Hence, when the Qur'an is voiced, hearken unto it, and listen in silence, so that you might be graced with [God's] mercy." 204 And do thou (O Muhammad) remember thy Lord within thyself humbly and with awe, below thy breath, at morn and evening. And be not thou of the neglectful. 205 Surely, those who are with your Lord (angels) are never too proud to perform acts of worship to Him, but they glorify His Praise and prostrate before Him. ۩ 206
