The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
75 verses, revealed in Medina after The Heifer (Al-Baqarah) before The Amramites (Al-Imraan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ They ask thee concerning (things taken as) spoils of war. Say: "(such) spoils are at the disposal of Allah and the Messenger: So fear Allah, and keep straight the relations between yourselves: Obey Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe." 1 The believers are only those whose hearts thrill with fear when Allah is mentioned, and when His revelations are rehearsed unto them they increase their faith, and who trust in their Lord. 2 They are steadfast in prayer and spend part of what We have given them for the cause of God. 3 Those are the believers, truly. For them are degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision. 4 Just as thy Lord ordered thee out of thy house in truth, even though a party among the Believers disliked it, 5 Arguing with you concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven toward death while they were looking on. 6 And recall what time Allah was promising you one of the two parties that it should be yours, and ye would fain that the one without arms was yours; whilst Allah besought to justify the truth by His words and to cut off the root of the infidels. 7 That He may manifest the truth of what was true and show the falsehood of what was false, though the guilty disliked. 8 When you (believers) begged for assistance from your Lord, He said, "I am helping you with a thousand angels, all in rows marching one after the other". 9 Allah appointed it only as good tidings, and that your hearts thereby might be at rest. Victory cometh only by the help of Allah. Lo! Allah is Mighty, Wise. 10

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
