At the same time, the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was disease were saying, "Their faith has deluded these [believers]!" But he who places his trust in God [knows that,] verily, God is almighty, wise. 49 If you could only see the infidels as the angels draw away their souls and strike their faces and their backs, (saying): "Taste the torment of burning 50 This is for what your own hands have sent on before, and because Allah is not in the least unjust to the servants; 51 [To them shall happen] the like of what happened to Pharaoh's people and those who lived before them; they denied the truth of God's messages and so God took them to task for their sins. Verily, God is powerful, severe in retribution! 52 That is because Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves. And indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing. 53 In the manner of the people of Firon and those before them; they rejected the communications of their Lord, therefore We destroyed them on account of their faults and We drowned Firon's people, and they were all unjust. 54 Verily, the vilest creatures in the sight of God are those who are bent on denying the truth and therefore do not believe. 55 The ones with whom you made a treaty but then they break their pledge every time, and they do not fear Allah. 56 if thou find them at war [with you,] make of them a fearsome example for those who follow them, so that they might take it to heart; 57 If you apprehend treachery from a people (with whom you have a treaty), retaliate by breaking off (relations) with them, for God does not like those who are treacherous. 58
