The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 They say: "O you to whom the Admonition has been revealed, you are surely crazed. 6 If you are a man of truth, why can't you bring the angels to us?" 7 We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite! 8 It is We who sent down the Koran, and We watch over it. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 This is how We make the mocking* enter the hearts of the guilty. (* The acts of disbelief.) 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
