The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 Soon will the time come when the unbelievers will wish they were Muslims. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 and even if We opened to them a door from heaven, and they began ascending through it, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
