When the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said, “You are an unfamiliar people.” 62 They said: Nay, we have come to you with that about which they disputed. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 Leave the town with your family sometime during the night. Walk behind them and let no one turn around. Proceed as you are commanded." 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 In the meantime the people of the city came to Lot rejoicing. 67 He said: Lo! they are my guests. Affront me not! 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 They said: forbade we not thee against the worlds? 70 He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so)." 71 By thy life, in their intoxication they were wandering bewildered. 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. 74 Surely! In this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah). 75 That town lies on a road which still exists. 76 Most surely there is a sign in this for the believers. 77 And the companions of the thicket were [also] wrongdoers. 78 So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway. 79
