When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 he said to them: 'I do not know you' 62 They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing, 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 Leave the town with your family sometime during the night. Walk behind them and let no one turn around. Proceed as you are commanded." 65 And We informed him the decision of this command, that at morning the root of the disbelievers would be cut off. 66 In the meantime the people of the city came to Lot rejoicing. 67 He said: verily these are my guests, so disgrace me not. 68 And fear Allah, and humiliate me not. 69 They said, "Did we not forbid you to extend hospitality to strangers?" 70 He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so). 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 So the shriek seized them at sunrise. 73 and turned the land upside down, and rained down stones of baked clay. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 Certainly the dwellers in the Thicket were evildoers, 78 So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway. 79
