When the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 'No' they replied: 'We bring you (news) of that concerning which they were doubting. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 So set out with your family in a watch of the night, and keep yourself behind them, and no one of you may turn around, and keep going ahead as you have been commanded." 65 And We informed him the decision of this command, that at morning the root of the disbelievers would be cut off. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 He said, 'These are my guests; put me not to shame, 68 Fear God and do not shame me." 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 He said: 'Here are my daughters; take them (in marriage), if you would be doing' 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 And thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at the time of sunrise, 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 That town lies on a road which still exists. 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
