At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut, 61 He said: "You are people I do not know." 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 "So leave with your family late in the night, yourself remaining in the rear, and let none turn back to look, and go where you will be commanded." 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 And there came the people of the city rejoicing 67 He said: "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 Fear God and do not shame me." 69 They said: Have we not forbidden you from (other) people? 70 He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so). 71 By thy life, in their intoxication they were wandering bewildered. 72 Then the mighty Blast caught them at sunrise, 73 And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay. 74 Behold! in this are Signs for those who by tokens do understand. 75 And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced. 76 Indeed in this are signs for the believers. 77 And the dwellers of the thicket also were most surely unjust. 78 We therefore took revenge from them; and indeed both these townships are situated on an open road. 79
