When the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said, “You are an unfamiliar people.” 62 'No' they replied: 'We bring you (news) of that concerning which they were doubting. 63 We bring you the truth, and indeed we are truthful. 64 So set forth, thou with thy family, in a watch of the night, and follow after the backs of them, and let not any one of you turn round; and depart unto the place you are commanded.' 65 And We informed him the decision of this command, that at morning the root of the disbelievers would be cut off. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 He said: verily these are my guests, so disgrace me not. 68 "And fear Allah and disgrace me not." 69 They said: forbade we not thee against the worlds? 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 By your life! they were blindly wandering on in their intoxication. 72 But the (mighty) Blast overtook them before morning, 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Surely in this are signs for those who examine. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 Indeed in this are signs for the believers. 77 Certainly the dwellers in the Thicket were evildoers, 78 So We took vengeance on them. And verily both are on a high-road open. 79
