And they ask thee regarding the spirit; say thou: the spirit is by the command of my Lord, and ye have not been vouchsafed of knowledge save a little. 85 And if We willed We could have taken away the revelations which We have sent to you – you would then not find anyone who could advocate for you before Us for this. 86 [Thou art spared] only by thy Sustainer's grace: behold, His favour towards thee is great indeed! 87 Say, "If all men and jinn gathered together to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce one like it, however much they helped one another." 88 In this Quran, We have set out all kinds of examples for people, yet most of them persist in denying the truth. 89 And they say: We will not put faith in thee till thou cause a spring to gush forth from the earth for us; 90 Or you should have a garden of palms and grapes in the midst of which you should cause rivers to flow forth, gushing out. 91 “Or you cause the sky to fall upon us in pieces like you said – or bring Allah and the angels as Witness.” 92 or thou have a house [made] of gold, or thou ascend to heaven - but nay, we would not [even] believe in thy ascension unless thou bring down to us [from heaven] a writing which we [ourselves] could read! Say thou, [O Prophet:] "Limitless in His glory is my Sustainer! Am I, then, aught but a mortal man, an apostle?" 93
