They will question thee concerning Dhool Karnain. Say: 'I will recite to you a mention of him. 83 Lo! We made him strong in the land and gave him unto every thing a road. 84 He set out (westwards) on an expedition, 85 Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. 86 He replied: 'The evildoer we shall punish. Then he shall return to his Lord and He will punish him with a stern punishment. 87 But as for him who believes, and does righteousness, he shall receive as recompense the reward most fair, and we shall speak to him, of our command, easiness.' 88 Then he followed another way, 89 Till he reached the point of the rising sun, and saw it rise over a people for whom We had provided no shelter against it. 90 Thus it was. And surely We have encompassed all that was with him in knowledge 91 He travelled 92 after this to the middle of two mountains where he found a people who could hardly understand a single word. 93 They said: "O Zul-qarnain! the Gog and Magog (People) do great mischief on earth: shall we then render thee tribute in order that thou mightest erect a barrier between us and them? 94 He said: "That (wealth, authority and power) in which my Lord had established me is better (than your tribute). So help me with strength (of men), I will erect between you and them a barrier. 95 "Bring me blocks of iron." At length, when he had filled up the space between the two steep mountain-sides, He said, "Blow (with your bellows)" Then, when he had made it (red) as fire, he said: "Bring me, that I may pour over it, molten lead." 96 So they were unable either to scale it or pierce it. 97 He said, 'This is a mercy from my Lord. But when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will make it into powder; and my Lord's promise is ever true.' 98 ۞ AND ON that Day" We shall [call forth all mankind and] leave them to surge like waves [that dash] against one another; and the trumpet [of judgment] will be blown, and We shall gather them all together. 99 And We shall set hell on that Day unto the infidels with a setting. 100 whose eyes had become blind against My admonition and who were utterly disinclined to hear it. 101
