They ask thee concerning Zul-qarnain. Say, "I will rehearse to you something of his story." 83 Behold, We established him securely on earth, and endowed him with [the knowledge of] the right means to achieve anything [that he might set out to achieve]; 84 With these he traveled 85 Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it set in a spring of murky water: Near it he found a People: We said: "O Zul-qarnain! (thou hast authority,) either to punish them, or to treat them with kindness." 86 He said: "We will chastise him who does wrong, whereafter he will be returned to his Lord and He will chastise him grievously. 87 "But as for him who believes (in Allah's Oneness) and works righteousness, he shall have the best reward, (Paradise), and we (Dhul-Qarnain) shall speak unto him mild words (as instructions)." 88 Then he set out on another expedition 89 Until when he reached the land of the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people to whom We had given no shelter from It; 90 (He left them) as they were: We completely understood what was before him. 91 Then followed he (another) way, 92 Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech. 93 They said: "O Dhul-Qarnain! Verily! Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog) are doing great mischief in the land. Shall we then pay you a tribute in order that you might erect a barrier between us and them?" 94 He replied: 'That which my Lord has given me is better, therefore help me with all your power, and I will build a barrier between you and between them. 95 Bring me blocks of iron; until when he had filled up the space between the two mountain sides, he said: Blow, until when he had made it (as) fire, he said: Bring me molten brass which I may pour over it. 96 Thereafter they could neither scale it, nor could they pierce it. 97 He said, “This is the mercy of my Lord; then when the promise of my Lord arrives, He will blow it to bits; and my Lord’s promise is true.” 98 ۞ AND ON that Day" We shall [call forth all mankind and] leave them to surge like waves [that dash] against one another; and the trumpet [of judgment] will be blown, and We shall gather them all together. 99 And We shall set hell on that Day unto the infidels with a setting. 100 The ones whose eyes were covered from My remembrance, and who could not bear to hear Truth. 101
