And they ask you regarding Zul-Qarnain; say, “I shall recite his story to you.” 83 Behold, We established him securely on earth, and endowed him with [the knowledge of] the right means to achieve anything [that he might set out to achieve]; 84 Then he followed a way. 85 until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and he found nearby a people. We said, 'O Dhool Karnain, either thou shalt chastise them, or thou shalt take towards them a way of kindness.' 86 He said: "As for him (a disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah) who does wrong, we shall punish him; and then he will be brought back unto his Lord; Who will punish him with a terrible torment (Hell). 87 But he who believes and does the right will have an excellent reward, and we shall make things easy for him." 88 He again pursued a purpose. 89 to the East where he found the sun rising upon a people whom We had exposed to its rays. 90 So; and We encompassed in knowledge what was with him. 91 He then followed (another) road 92 Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech. 93 They said: 'O Dhu'l-Qarnain, Gog and Magog are oppressing the land. May we pay you some tribute so that you could build a rampart between us and them?" 94 He said: That wherein my Lord hath established me is better (than your tribute). Do but help me with strength (of men), I will set between you and them a bank. 95 "Give me pieces (blocks) of iron," then, when he had filled up the gap between the two mountain-cliffs, he said: "Blow," till when he had made it (red as) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper to pour over it." 96 Therefore Yajuj and Majuj were neither able to surmount it, nor could they pierce it. 97 Dhu al-Qarnayn said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: but when the time of my Lord's promise shall come, He will level the rampart with the ground. My Lord's promise always comes true." 98 ۞ On that day, We will let them surge on one another, and the Horn shall be blown, and We will gather them all together. 99 And We shall set hell on that Day unto the infidels with a setting. 100 Those whose eyes were hoodwinked from My reminder, and who could not bear to hear. 101
