They ask thee concerning Zul-qarnain. Say, "I will rehearse to you something of his story." 83 We established him in the land, and gave him the means to achieve all things. 84 He set out (westwards) on an expedition, 85 Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. 86 He said, "As for one who wrongs, we will punish him. Then he will be returned to his Lord, and He will punish him with a terrible punishment. 87 As for those who believe and do good, they will receive virtuous rewards and We will tell them to do only what they can. 88 Then he followed a way 89 To the extent that when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising upon a nation for which We had not kept any shelter from it. 90 Even so! and We had a full knowledge of what he had. 91 Then he followed a way 92 Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech. 93 They said: "O Dhu al-Qarnayn, Gog and Magog are spreading corruption in this land. So shall we pay you taxes on the understanding that you will set up a barrier between us and them?" 94 He said: "The ability my Lord has given me is better. So help me with your manual labour; I will build a wall between you and them. 95 Bring me ingots of iron' After he had leveled between the two cliffs, he said: 'Blow' And when he made it a fire, he said: 'Bring me molten copper so that I may pour over it' 96 So they were unable either to scale it or pierce it. 97 He said, “This is the mercy of my Lord; then when the promise of my Lord arrives, He will blow it to bits; and my Lord’s promise is true.” 98 ۞ And on that day We will leave a part of them in conflict with another part, and the trumpet will be blown, so We will gather them all together; 99 And We shall bring hell in front of the disbelievers. 100 who have turned a blind eye to My reminder and a deaf ear to My warning. 101
