Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. 1 This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, 2 When he called to his Lord a private supplication. 3 and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers. 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 one that might be my heir and the heir of the house of Jacob; and make him, Lord, one that will be pleasing to You. 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 He said, 'O my Lord, how shall I have a son, seeing my wife is barren, and I have attained to the declining of old age?' 8 He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" 9 He said, “My Lord, give me a sign”; He said, “Your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights, although in proper health.” 10 So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. 11 (We said:) "O John, hold fast to the Book;" and We gave him wisdom right from boyhood, 12 as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
