In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ain. Sad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 When he called to his Lord inwardly, 3 He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: 4 now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 'O Zachariah, We give thee good tidings of a boy, whose name is John. No namesake have We given him aforetime.' 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 Said He, 'So it shall be; thy Lord says, "Easy is that for Me, seeing that I created thee aforetime, when thou wast nothing."' 9 He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. 15
