Commemorate Abraham in the Book: He was upright, a prophet. 41 when he spoke [thus] unto his father: "O my father! Why dost thou worship something that neither hears nor sees and can be of no avail whatever to thee? 42 O my father, indeed there has come to me of knowledge that which has not come to you, so follow me; I will guide you to an even path. 43 O my father, do not worship Satan. Indeed Satan has ever been, to the Most Merciful, disobedient. 44 O My father! verily I fear that there may touch thee a torment from the Compassionate so that thou become to the Satan a companion. 45 [His father] said, "Do you reject my deities, Abraham? If you do not desist, I shall surely stone you to death. Keep out of my way!" 46 [Abraham] replied: "Peace be upon thee! I shall ask my Sustainer to forgive thee: for, behold, He has always been kind unto me. 47 I will leave you and those you invoke apart from God, and pray to my Lord. Haply in praying to my Lord I will not be deprived." 48 Then when he had renounced them and that which they worshipped beside Allah, We bestowed on him Is'haq and Ya'qub and each one We made a prophet! 49 And We granted to them of Our mercy, and We left (behind them) a truthful mention of eminence for them. 50
