He said: my Lord! expand for me my breast. 25 and make my task easy for me, 26 Loosen the knot in my tongue, 27 that they may understand my speech. 28 Appoint for me of my folk a familiar, 29 Haroun, my brother, 30 Strengthen my back by him, 31 And let him share my task 32 That we may sing Your praises much, 33 and may remember You much. 34 Surely You know us well." 35 God said, "You have been granted your request, Moses." 36 "And indeed We conferred a favour on you another time (before). 37 "When We inspired your mother with that which We inspired. 38 “That, ‘Put him into a chest and cast it into the river, so the river shall deposit it on to a shore – therefore one who is an enemy to Me and you, shall pick him up’; and I bestowed upon you love from Myself; and for you to be brought up in My sight.” 39 when thy sister went out, saying, "Shall I point you to one to have charge of him?" So We returned thee to thy mother that she might rejoice, and not sorrow. Then thou slewest; a living soul, and We delivered thee out of grief, and We tried thee with many trials. Many years among the people of Midian thou didst sojourn, then camest hither, Moses, according to a decree. 40 I have chosen you for Me. 41 Go, you and your brother, with My signs, and do not be remiss in remembering Me. 42 Go, both of you to Pharaoh, for he has transgressed all bounds. 43 Both of you must speak with him in a gentle manner so that perhaps he may come to himself or have fear (of God)." 44 They said: Our Lord! Lo! we fear that he may be beforehand with us or that he may play the tyrant. 45 The Lord replied them, "Do not be afraid; I Am with you all the time, listening and seeing." 46 Go, then; you two unto him and say, 'Behold, we are apostles sent by thy Sustainer: let, then, the children of Israel go with us, and cause them not to suffer [any longer]. We have now come unto thee with a message from thy Sustainer; and [know that His] peace shall be [only] on those who follow [His] guidance: 47 Indeed, it has been revealed to us that the punishment will be upon whoever denies and turns away.' " 48 (Pharaoh) said: Who then is the Lord of you twain, O Moses? 49 He said: Our Lord is He Who gave unto everything its nature, then guided it aright. 50 (The Pharaoh) said: "And what about the former generations?" 51 He replied: "The knowledge of that is with my Lord, duly recorded: my Lord never errs, nor forgets,- 52 He who appointed the earth to be a cradle for you, and therein threaded roads for you, and sent down water out of heaven, and therewith We have brought forth divers kinds of plants. 53 (Saying): Eat ye and feed your cattle. Lo! herein verily are portents for men of thought. 54
