۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said, 'Who has. done this with our gods? Surely he is one of the evildoers.' 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 And they wished to cause him harm, so We made them the greatest of losers. 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
