۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 “Disgrace be upon you and all the idols whom you worship instead of Allah; so do you not have sense?” 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
