۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 Then their minds were turned upside down, and they said: "You know well that they do not speak." 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 And they wished to cause him harm, so We made them the greatest of losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
