۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said, “Have you brought the Truth to us, or are you just making fun?” 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
