۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 Abraham replied, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them, and I bear witness to that. 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
