And said the leaders of his people, who disbelieved and denied the confronting of the Hereafter – and We had given them comfort in the worldly life – that, “He is nothing but a human like you, he eats from what you eat and drinks from what you drink.” 33 And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers. 34 What, does he promise you that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be brought forth? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, far-fetched indeed is what you are promised! 36 There is naught but our life in this world; we die and we live and we shall not be raised again. 37 "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 38 He said, 'O my Lord, help me, for that they cry me lies.' 39 He answered: "A short while, and they shall be repenting." 40 So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people. 41 Then We produced after them other generations. 42 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 43 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe. 44 Then We sent Musa (Moses) and his brother Harun (Aaron), with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and manifest authority, 45 unto Pharaoh and his Council; but they waxed proud, and they were a lofty people, 46 And said: "Should we believe in two men like yourselves, whose people are our subjects?" 47 So they rejected them both, and became those who were destroyed. 48 And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided. 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
