The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink. 33 And were ye to obey a human being like you, ye are forthwith to be losers. 34 Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]? 35 ۞ Begone, begone, with that which ye are promised! 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be raised up. 37 "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 38 (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies." 39 (Allah) said: "In a little while, they are sure to be regretful." 40 A blast struck them for a just cause, and We made them look like withered leaves. God keeps the unjust people away from His mercy. 41 Thereafter, after them, We produced other generations; 42 No nation can outstrip its term, nor can it put it back. 43 Then sent We Our Messengers successively; whenever its Messenger came to a nation they cried him lies, so We caused some of them to follow others, and We made them as but tales; so away with a people who do not believe! 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves, and their people are obedient to us with humility (and we use them to serve us as we like)." 47 So they denied them and were of those destroyed. 48 And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Musa the Book, that haply they may be guided. 49 And We made the son of Marium and his mother a sign, and We gave them a shelter on a lofty ground having meadows and springs. 50
