And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 So if you follow a man like yourself you will certainly be doomed. 34 Promiseth he unto you that ye, when ye have died and have become dust and bones, ye are to be brought forth? 35 ۞ "Far, very far is that which ye are promised! 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be resurrected. 37 He is only a man who has invented a lie about God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 He said, 'O my Lord, help me, for that they cry me lies.' 39 He said: In a little while they will most certainly be repenting. 40 Then the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong! 41 Thereafter, after them, We produced other generations; 42 No community can anticipate their term, nor can they lay behind. 43 Thereafter We sent Our apostles, successively. So oft as there came unto a community their apostle, they belied him, so We made them follow one another, and We made them bywords; so away with a people who believe not! 44 Thereafter We sent Musa and his brother Harun with Our signs and an authority manifest. 45 Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk. 46 And so they said: "Shall we believe [them] two mortals like ourselves - although their people are our slaves?" 47 Thus, they gave the lie to those two, and earned (thereby) their place among the doomed: 48 We gave the Book to Moses so that perhaps they may have guidance. 49 And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign; and We sheltered the twain on a height: a quiet abode and running water. 50
