And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost. 34 Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again? 35 ۞ Away! away with that wherewith ye are promised; 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 38 (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies." 39 He said: In a little while they surely will become repentant. 40 Then the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong! 41 Then, after them, We brought forth other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Whenever a Messenger came to his people they rejected him, calling him a liar. Thereupon, We made each people to follow the other (to its doom), reducing them to mere tales (of the past). Scourged be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa (Moses) and his brother Harun (Aaron), with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and manifest authority, 45 Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk. 46 They said, "Should we believe in two mere mortals who are like ourselves and whose people are our slaves?" 47 So they denied them – therefore became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Prophet Eisa) and his mother a sign, and We gave them shelter on a height, a place to stay and visible springs. 50
