And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 nor any loving friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
