And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 You and your ancient sires. 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor a true friend; 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
