And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 no caring friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
