And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 nor any loving friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
