Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
