The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens, and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
