The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
