The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a few from later times. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and shade extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
